When I was young—and I’ve only ever been young, my father called me his Amber Jewel! But then again, don’t most parents consider their children, precious living gems? If I’ve learned anything from my privileged world wanderings in the 21 years of my life, it’s that despite our differences in culture, our distances in time and space, this we share… We will always be our family’s jewels. Parents everywhere will do anything in their power to secure for us (their children) a safe, a prosperous, and a healthy home.

To the very best of their ability and under the most challenging circumstances, our parents will protect us…no matter what. So, know that I certainly don’t blame my mother and my father for what happened to me that starlit night when the nightingale came to sing at my windowsill…

Ah, now you want to hear my story? Wonderful. Thank you for being curious. But, I should warn you…. mine’s a rather long and twisted tale. As you know, my people are not only bound across the Peninsula by our natural resources, regional interests or the Arabic language; we are bound by our love of telling stories.

I’ll tell you my Story, my Secret, my Natura Vera.  But, it’s impossible to repeat in an “Insta”gram or Tweet. You will have to really retreat for moments more than a beat, and then I promise, you will receive quite the treat. Khalas! Let’s begin… As- salami alaykum (peace)!
